130 acres for secondary runway expansion

CHENNAI: The State government has issued an order allotting 130.60 acres to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of the secondary runway at the Chennai airport.

AAI officials said the secondary runway expansion was part of the overall expansion programme that includes construction of new terminals, taxiways, aerobridges and a parallel runway. These projects would be taken up at a total cost of Rs. 1,808 crore. The Centre had sanctioned the sum.

This only seems for the secondary run way expansion, and does not cover the overall expansion

Seems like the Government is taking a phased approach to this. Our troubles are not yet over

Does anyone has given their land as part of this 130 acres handover to AAI ? I am not sure all these 130 acres are government land or the govt acquired these from individuals ?

Also is anyone aware of the layout for this secondary runway expansion. This is to confirm how much of it will affect EVP township ?

Please comment.

Today's Hindu (9 July,08) has a news item on SC go ahead for the land acquisition. It has even refused to go into the details of the HC verdict and declined to interfere with the verdict (See
http://www.hindu.com/2008/07/09/stories/2008070958450100.htm).

Another news item in Hindu again on the same subject mentions the reply of AAI that quotes a project cost of Rs. 2700 Crores (See
http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/holnus/002200807090301.htm).

Can some1 clarify this new amount being quoted.

HI

IS THE STATE GOVERNMENT GOING TO STOP WITH ACQUISITION OF 130 ACRES FOR THE EXPANSION OF CHENNAI AIRPORT OR IS THE PRESENT ACQUISITION OF 130 ACRES A PART OF THEIR OVERALL PROPOSAL OF 1066 ACRES AS PLANNED EARLIER. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY FURTHER NEWS IN YOUR COLUMNS AFTER 01-07-2008. PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME AS TO WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON. HOPE THE STATE GOVERNMENT WILL APPRECIATE THE PATHETIC PLIGHT OF THE DISPLACED PERSONS AND GIVE UP FURTHER ACQUISITION.

About 3 weks ago I contacted EVP office.A person who claims he is the lawyer told that some individuals who come in the first phase recved notice.when I asked him whether any idea about the compensation offered ,he told me that the govt has cleverly not mentioned because it feared that the people will go to court on the issue of compensation.whatever that means?any suggestion as to what our next move should be?
